Atonement

James E. Faust

"As the Only Begotten Son of the Father in the flesh, Jesus inherited divine attributes. He was the only person ever born into mortality who could perform this most significant and supernal act. As the only sinless Man who ever lived on this earth, He was not subject to spiritual death. Because of His godhood, He also possessed power over physical death. Thus He did for us what we cannot do for ourselves." "The Atonement: Our Greatest Hope," Ensign, Nov. 2001, 19

 Jeffrey R. Holland

“Brothers and sisters, one of the great consolations of this Easter season is that because Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we do not have to do so. His solitary journey brought great company for our little version of that path” the merciful care of our Father in Heaven, the unfailing companionship of this Beloved Son, the consummate gift of the Holy Ghost, angels in heaven, family members on both sides of the veil, prophets and apostles, teachers, leaders, friends. All of these and more have been given as companions for our mortal journey because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the Restoration of His gospel. Trumpeted from the summit of Calvary is the truth that we will never be left alone nor unaided, even if sometimes we may feel that we are. Truly the Redeemer of us all said, I will not leave you comfortless. [My Father and] I will come to you [and abide with you].” None Were with Him, Ensign, May 2009, 88

Neal A. Maxwell

"Enoch rejoiced, and so can you over the grand, consoling reality regarding God: 'And yet thou art there' (Moses 7:30). Privileged Enoch even saw the God of heaven weep! (see v. 29). Yet Enoch was very discouraged by the gross wickedness anciently. He said he would 'refuse to be comforted' (v. 44). The mentoring Lord, however, told Enoch to 'lift up your heart, and be glad; and look' (v. 44). Then revealed to Enoch was Jesus' Atonement in the meridian of time and also the latter-day Restoration. Enoch, who had been so distraught, now rejoiced!" "Do not 'refuse to be comforted.' Let the revelations comfort you. Let the scriptures refresh you!" "These Are Your Days," Ensign, Oct. 2004, 31

Dieter F. Uchtdorf

"God, our loving Father in Heaven, has said that it is His work and glory 'to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man' (Moses 1:39). God the Father is the author of the gospel; it is a key part of God's plan of salvation, or plan of redemption. It is called the gospel of Jesus Christ because it is the Atonement of Jesus Christ that makes redemption and salvation possible. Through the Atonement all men, women, and children are unconditionally redeemed from physical death, and all will be redeemed from their own sins on the condition of accepting and obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ." "Have We Not Reason to Rejoice?" Ensign, Nov. 2007, 19

Robert D. Hales

"I bear my special witness that Jesus Christ gave His life, making possible the salvation and exaltation of all the families of the earth. With all the feeling of a tender parent, I express my love and the love of our Heavenly Father to you and your family. May we gather our loved ones around us, 'gird up [our] loins; [and] fresh courage take. Our God will never us forsake.' With faith, courage, and love, families will truly be together forever." With All the Feelings of a Tender Parent: A Message of Hope to Families," Ensign, May 2004, 91

Shayne M. Bowen

"Is it possible to reclaim a life that through reckless abandon has become so strewn with garbage that it appears that the person is unforgivable? Or what about the one who is making an honest effort but has fallen back into sin so many times that he feels that there is no possible way to break the seemingly endless pattern? Or what about the person who has changed his life but just can't forgive himself? . . . "The Atonement of Jesus Christ is available to each of us. His Atonement is infinite. It applies to everyone, even you. It can clean, reclaim, and sanctify even you. That is what infinite means--total, complete, all, forever." "The Atonement Can Clean, Reclaim, and Sanctify Our Lives," Ensign, Nov. 2006, 33-34

Richard G. Scott

"Jesus Christ lives. He is our Savior, our Redeemer. He is a glorious, resurrected being. He has the capacity to communicate love that is so powerful, so overwhelming as to surpass the capacity of the human tongue to express adequately. He gave His life to break the bonds of death. His Atonement made fully active the plan of happiness of His Father in Heaven.” He Lives! All Glory to His Name! Ensign, May 2010, 76

 Russell M. Nelson

"Jesus suffered deeply because He loves us deeply! He wants us to repent and be converted so that He can fully heal us.” "Jesus Christ”the Master Healer," Ensign, Nov. 2005, 87

 Earl C. Tingey

"The Atonement is an event that enables us to be reconciled to God. The word atonement, or 'at-one-ment,' means to restore or to come back. In terms of family, it means to be reunited with one another and with God and His Son, Jesus Christ. It means sadness through separation will become happiness through reuniting." "The Great Plan of Happiness," Ensign, May 2006, 74

 Henry B. Eyring

“It is clear that for us to have [Gods] gift [of eternal life] and to be given [the] trust [of our Heavenly Father], we must be transformed through making righteous choices where that is hard to do. We are prepared for so great a trust by passing through trying and testing experiences in mortality. That education can come only as we are subject to trials while serving God and others for Him.” Adversity, Ensign, May 2009, 24

  1. What can I say about the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ? words always seem to fail me when I get on this subject. To consider the love and grace of such a perfect person, that he would condescend, and come to earth, to receive a mortal body, live in the flesh and be the perfect example of how to live, and then suffer all our pains, afflictions, sicknesses, hurts, and our sins, then be crucified so he could fulfill the will of his father, and break the bands of death that chain us all, and usher in the resurrection. To do all of this meekly, and without guile, trusting in his Father. I know that there would be no way for me to become clean and to live with my Heavenly Father again if it weren't for the atonement of Jesus Christ. I am so grateful for him, for doing what we could not do.
